Bienvenue!

Mme Ireland 1D - La première année

Welcome to Mme Ireland's
Grade One French Immersion Blog!
I hope you will enjoy our posts and how we make
learning visible with you at home.  We'll try to cover a variety of topics that will hopefully spark some conversations.

     Le coin français
Students have been learning about and reviewing colour names in French.  Daily stories activate thinking, followed by a brainstorming session to generate ideas.  They then work in their journals to draw and write simple sentences following a model. They are beginning to notice patterns in their writing and are focused on editing their work for beginning capitalization and ending punctuation.

Science et art

In Science, students experimented with primary colours to create new colours using plasticine and then blend new shades to create a piece of art inspired by the story "Un bon point pour Zoé" by Peter Reynolds.

Ask students to tell you about the important message/moral of the story and ask them what they learned about colour through their colour mixing experiment.

Les mathématiques

Naming numbers, counting skills, one to one correspondence, representing numbers symbolically and in drawings, patterning and calendar have been our focus so far.  Ask students to tell you about our daily calendar routine on the Smart board and how we are recording the information.

We're also keeping track of lost teeth using a chart and have have graphed the numbers of boys and girls in the class.

Students are exploring their understanding of AB (2 elements patterns) using natural objects.  Look at some of our work.

Terry Fox Run

Our training has paid off! Our class completed a total of 126 laps. BRAVO les amis!  Students trained and practiced for several weeks and learned about goal setting.  Their training laps were tracked on their popsicle sticks.  This visual helped students set and work towards their running goals.  We counted our class donations and collected $ 50.28.  The school total was $1567.35. Thank you for your contributions.

Thanks for checking out our Blog.
À la prochaine!
