Edition # 18

Les cent jours d'école

Students enjoyed a fun filled day of tasks focused on the number 100.  Through art, math and language arts, students rotated through a variety of activities to strengthen their understanding of the number 100.

Science

We began a fun experiment last week "le voyage des couleurs" where students worked on their prediction and observation skills. It was pretty fun to see the changes from last Friday (pic # 1) until Monday morning (pic # 2). Ask your child to tell you about the predictions they made.  Were they accurate?  Why or why not? Did any of the previous experiments we did with creating colour help them make their predictions?  Here is a fun and easy video that is similar to the experiment we carried out in class. Give it a shot at home and have some fun.

Education Physique

We finished up our hockey unit with game play and the students demonstrated great team work, cooperation and puck handling skills on all three "rinks".  Now onto "March Madness" with basketball or as we like to say in french "le ballon panier".

Potpourri
Pink Shirt Day - la journée du chandail rose is on Wednesday. Please sport your favourite "pink" or red t-shirt and learn more about how to help stop bullying and spread kindness.

Celebration of Learning
Our celebration of learning is this week.  Mme Ireland will be sending some materials that students will share at home as well as a parent instruction sheet via School Messenger.

Edition # 17

le 10 février 2021

It was an extremely eventful week at school with meeting Mrs. Devitt for the first time, Carnaval activities, la St-Valentin and learning about the Lunar New Year.

Check out our photos and videos below and see for yourself what a busy and fun week is was, despite the frigid temperatures.

When you scroll ALL THE WAY down to bottom, you will also find more info about next week's oral language presentations, book exchange and preparing for 100 days of school celebration.

Carnaval de Tuscany

La St-Valentin

Students listened to three wonderful stories about Love and then brainstormed ideas around Valentin's Day to create a mixed media image representation.  We also made some pretty cute "chapeaux" to celebrate the day.

Potpourri

Reminder, there is no school on Thursday (jeudi), Friday (vendredi) and Monday (lundi).

Mme Ireland has also posted some new things in Google Classroom for you to check out over this long week-end.

You may also wish to start thinking about what 100 items you are going to bring in for our 100 days of school celebration next week (Cent jours d'école).

Oral language presentations begin on Tuesday and everyone should be ready to go! It will be a random draw and students will be self-evaluating their work using the rubric on the back of the page.

Please remember to return your home reading books on Tuesday for exchange. Merci!

Edition # 16 - La première année

le 5 février 2021

Le coin français

This week, students explored what a dictionary is and how it can be used to locate words and their meaning. We used this exploration as a jumping off point to create our own visual dictionary that is now posted in the hallway.  This will be a collaborative effort between all the grade one French Immersion classes and will help build a strong understanding of vocabulary in French for reading, writing and comprehension based on complex sounds. We can't wait to show you more pictures as our visual wall dictionary comes to life!

Etudes Sociales

We have been exploring the concept of community and did a survey of the communities we live in.  We also discussed what is important in a community and took at look at the community of Tuscany using Google Earth.  It was pretty neat to have this "bird's eye view". We located the school as an important landmark (un point de répère).

Carnaval de Tuscany Kick Off

Students created their effigies and have now placed them on their coats.  Did you know that the effigy is a collectors item and is essentially "your ticket" to Carnaval?  Bonhomme visited our classroom a few times this week and we showed Bonhomme our "danse des pingouins".  We also enjoyed a virtual concert by Folk lo folie that was very memorable. Students were immersed in Franco-Albertan culture through song and dance and learned how to play the spoons.

Our Carnaval events take us outside next weeks so please remember to dress warmly.  Bring your ice blocks with cartons removed on Tuesday. Merci!

Scholastic Digi-flyers

Students brought home a February Scholastic Flyer and the digi-flyer is also available here is you are looking for greater selection and French Books under " Club de Lecture".  Our class code is: RC180147
