Le coin français

Students have loved learning about the needs of plants and animals.  It has been fun comparing the life cycles of plants and animals, categorizing the different types of animals and learning more about their needs through our final oral language project of the year.  Cutie, the praying mantis has now returned "home" with Noah and will likely be released once he has gotten bigger and stronger.  Merci Noah pour un bonne expérience!

You know you are in grade one when you loose your teeth. This year's total was 48 lost teeth and APRIL was the winning month!

Students enjoyed parachute games and have a picnic in the Tuscany Garden last week. 

Journée de la plage 
The slip and slide was going strong this morning at Tuscany School. What a great way to finish off our year and welcome the heat of SUMMER!

IRIS 
Students have been uploading samples of their work all year long.  Parents and family are welcome to take a look.  All you need to do is go to CBE IRIS, type in your student ID number in the "username" tab and then use our "secret" password to access your account. There are a variety of pictures and videos for you to enjoy.  

Finally, 
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind emails, cards and gifts. I feel so SPOILED!  It has been a pleasure to be your teacher and I am so proud of you all.  I will miss you all very much, but have the fondest of memories of our year together. Enjoy your summer les. amis.

Science

During our trip to the Coulee students enjoyed creating their nature parfaits, listening to a story by our new Principal Mr. Tomczyk and sketching the coulee. It was a wonderful day to spend outdoors, celebrating the first day of summer and National Indigenous Peoples Day. We also sang a beautiful song to honour Na'a (Mother Earth).

Father's Day - La fête des pères

Students had fun decorating their drink cozies for Father's Day.  They will sure come in handy next week, during the heat wave.  

Sunflower Art

Students created wonderful sunflower art to match their potted plants.  I hope you enjoy watching them grow in your garden this summer. 

Last Day of School Beach Party

Monday, June 28th is the last day of school and we are having a beach party.  Bring your bathing suit, towel, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. More details in an email from Mme Ireland is forthcoming.

Le coin français

For a few weeks now, students have been learning about storytelling. We discussed the parts of a story (beginning - middle - end) and what happens in each segment. Students then looked at characters and characters straits (adjectives) to describe and also setting. They then broke into small groups to discuss ideas based on three main characters. The fox (le renard), the mouse (la souris) and the hedgehod (l'hérission).  Students acted out their stories orally and then drew each story segment in their cahier. Feedback was given and student have been working on making improvements to the oral stories.  We look forward to showcasing them in our last week of school. 

We began our final oral language project of the year about animals and students have found creative ways to showcase their work. We are learning. many interesting facts about animals. Thanks for your effort. 

Our beach party was a hit and students enjoyed writing about summer "C'est l'été"! in their journals after brainstorming a bunch of ideas and vocabulary. 

Mathématiques

Students have been working on writing their own addition and subtraction problems and are looking forward to challenging their peers to solve their math stories. 

Science

We had an amazzzzing presentations about bees from Jackie Seidel and learned so much about their importance in the ecosystem, how to recognize different bees, how to compare bees and wasps and just how cool bees are.  Students have also been looking at the lifecycle of plants and animals and we are pretty excited about our bean plants, sunflower plants and "Cutie" our pet praying mantis.

Coulee Field Trip on Monday

We are heading to the Coulee for our final walking field trip of the year on MONDAY!  It coincides with National Indigenous Peoples Day - Summer Solstice and we are excited to have our new principal Mr. Tomczyk joins us for the walk.  He also spent last week's assembly in our classroom and we were happy to spend this time getting to know him.

Edition # 29

Le coin français

Students have been working hard on their last oral language project of the year. They have been brainstorming adjectives to describe their favourite animal and using those words in written sentences. They have also been practicing the modelled phrases in class, with Mme Ireland, with a partner and then the class. I am proud of their risk taking and bravery to share in front of the class and receive immediate feedback on their phrasing and pronunciation.  There is a week and a half left to practice in class before we begin the presentations on June 17th. All students should be prepared to present on this date as we will do a random draw. Please return all project sheets and any photos you would like to share. 

Les mathématiques 

This week, students explored the following photo.  They were prompted to find the connection between each image. Can you tell what mathematical concept is represented in this photo?  If you guessed measurement you are correct. Students were then given a non-standard unit of measure ( a cube) and asked to estimate the length of their desk.  This was followed by measuring with the cubes. They then got to pick two other items in the classroom to estimate and measure.  We are excited to practice these skills outside next week with a natural object. 

Science

Les pouces vertes showed up this week. What great fun everyone had digging in the dirt and planting their beans. 

Potpourri

It was a very eventful week with the Amazing Race Finale, the Calgary Fire Department presentation with Randy Chevrier (former STAMPS player) and the Tous ensemble à Tuscany Assembly. Students did a wonderful job presenting their Earth Day Poem in front of the school. I would love to share the video with you all, but need consent from all families to do so. If you have not provided media consent this year, please drop me an email with your consent and I can post the video to the Blog next week.
