Le coin français
Students have been learning about long consonants (Vv, Ff, Jg & Gg). We generally begin by learning the proper motor planning (way to form) of upper and lower case letters, then focus on sound /symbol recognition, listen to a story about that letter from Raconte moi l'alphabet, and then we brainstorming words that begin with the consonant. Our message of the week ties into this learning as we search for words containing these letters and sounds. We are also working on blending these consonants with vowels and learning our french sight words from list B now. You can support this work at home by checking out "les mots globaux" sight word lists in Google Classroom under the lecture tab as well as playing games. Here are a few games we have been using in class to support our learning that you can also find in Google Classroom.
Students also finished their petits livrets de l'halloween and are very proud of their work. Today we edited our work using the checklist and then we shared our writing with the class and then a partner. We also discussed the purpose of writing books. Students shared that it helps to learn how to write, helps to learn how to read, helps others learn to read, and that writing books is about sharing ideas and bringing joy to others.
This week in math students continued to learn how to use the problem solving checklist to support their understanding and mathematical thinking. We practiced counting our 20 "jetons" in various ways and practiced reverse counting when doing attendance. Ask your child to tell you about how we do attendance "numéroté" in various ways. Students can also share how they forward and reverse count in French from 1-21, 21-1 with you at home. We also worked on another tricky problem where we had to work through various steps to show our thinking.

SantéWhat fun we had discovering the Zones of Regulation this week. We listened to a great book "Tourbouillon d'émotions" and had a great discussion. Students then sorted various images using the 4 zone colours and we continued our conversation about why we might have a particular emotion and what we might do to help us with our feelings. This is work we will continue with throughout the year to build emotional awareness and skills. Ask you child to share some their learning about the zones with you at home.
