Le coin français
We have finished learning about the long consonants (l, r, s, c (s), ç, v, f, j, g (j), m, n, z, s(z)). These are the consonants that have a long, stretchy sound. Students are now learning about the short consonants like (t, h, b, d, g (gu), q, c (k), k, x, w ). These are short, crisp sounds. There are a few letters in the alphabet that have more than one sound and students have been learning about the "clues" to search for in order to understand these different sounds. Here is an example of our brainstorming and learning of the soft and hard Gg sounds. Ask your child to explain how they can differentiate the soft and hard Gg sounds in these words based on the "clues". Tip: the clue is always found in the vowel that follows the g.
Les mathématiques
This week we looked at finding pattern errors. Here is a sampling of our work. Students had to first identify the pattern core and then find the error. We verified our work by identify the number of elements in each pattern core as well as naming each pattern part with a letter. Our next steps will be to create pattern strips with errors and share them with a friend to see if they can find the mistake. 
Social Studies
On Wednesday we were visited by Mrs. Gainor and Mrs. Glowacki. They introduced us to a new school wide quilt project about belonging. We watched a really interesting TED Talk that featured a boy named Cole and his friend Steven. We then discussed what makes each of us unique. Here we are, creating our quilt patches. Our class is using the first initial of our name as the anchor for our quilt patches. We then got to add our own unique designs. We can't wait to see what the larger quilt will look like.
Potpourri
Parent Teacher Conferences are December 3 & 4th. Please sign up for a conference with Mme Ireland and check for instructions sent by Administration in an email this past week. I look forward to connecting with you all.
Blue dossier - Please ensure that the blue plastic folder is coming to school each day. It is one of our main communication tools between school and home. Today, students came home with the December oral language project. A model is has been posted to Google Classroom. Students also came home with a Je lis card. This is an incredible tool that the CBE Languages Team has provided to French Immersion students. Here, students have access to French Readers to build their reading skills and fluency. I showed the students how to access the site today and they are encouraged to begin exploring the site in preparation for our home reading program, which will begin in January. It is also good practice for online learning that will be occurring the first week back after the December Holidays. More on that in the coming weeks.
